Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua star in new Netflix film

After the critical and box office success of The equalizer 3Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua are expected to continue their long-standing creative partnership for Netflix in an upcoming historical film.
Per deadline, Washington and Fuqua are developing a Netflix pic set in ancient Rome. In the film, Washington plays Hannibal, the famous Carthaginian general known for attacking Rome on an elephant. Oscar-nominated screenwriter John Logan, known for his work on gladiator And The plane, is writing the script for the yet-to-be-titled film. Washington has reportedly wanted to do the project since the 2000s, but production stalled as Fox wanted to make the film because Washington didn’t want to be away from his family for an extended period of time.
The Netflix film will chronicle the key battles Hannibal fought during the Second Punic War between 218 and 201 BC. BC led against the Roman Republic. Hannibal was known as a skilled military strategist who came from the Alps and posed a serious threat to the Roman Republic. He led his troops into the area now known as Tunisia and won several notable victories that helped strengthen his legend. Fuqua’s production company, Hill District Media, is attached to the project, and the film falls under the company’s first-look deal with Netflix.
The fruitful partnership between Washington and Fuqua dates back to their work together on the classic film Training day, in which Washington played reviled corrupt cop Alonzo Harris. The crime thriller won the Oscar for Best Actor in Washington and is Fuqua’s most successful work to date. The equalizer 3 is the likely end to the titular franchise based on the ’80s series of the same name, with Fuqua calling the threequel Washington’s “final masterpiece of violence.” The film enjoyed solid box office success, grossing nearly $188 million worldwide on a budget of $70 million, while being easily the biggest success of any film in the bloody action trilogy. Fuqua has announced a possible prequel starring Denzel’s son John David Washington.
Washington will also star in Ridley Scott’s film Gladiator 2, which is expected to resume production soon after the SAG-AFTRA strike ends. Meanwhile, Fuqua is working on the biographical drama Rob Peace with Chiwetel Ejiofor in the lead role, and he also worked on a biopic about Michael Jackson for Universal Pictures. He recently signaled his intention to lead a Batman film at some point.
The equalizer 3 is now available digitally and will be released on Blu-ray, DVD and 4K on November 14th.
