In court documents filed in Mobile County District Court, prosecutors allege Boykin “intentionally tortured, abused, cruelly beaten or otherwise mistreated her son” by “failing to immediately seek medical attention after the child sustained severe burns to his face.” and suffered in the neck”. ” according to a report from Mobile CBS affiliate WKRG.
Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood reportedly told WKRG that Boykin’s son is only 10 months old. He said that not only did the boy suffer severe burns to his face, neck and mouth area, but when the victim was first treated by medical staff, he also appeared emaciated and malnourished.
“Children are, you know, the ones who need the most protection,” Blackwood reportedly told the station. “And especially babies, a 10-month-old child, need protection. And when a child is abused, and especially, you know, when a baby is abused, we take that very seriously.”
After paramedics treated Boykin’s son, they took Boykin into custody and transported her to the Mobile County Metro Jail. She was released from custody after posting $60,000 bail, WALA reported.
Authorities did not speculate on a possible motive for why Boykin allegedly burned her child.
