Leaked Hogwarts Legacy Switch gameplay exceeds expectations with “impressive” performance

Harry Potter fans have gotten their first look at Hogwarts Legacy gameplay on Nintendo Switch and the first impressions are overwhelmingly positive.

Hogwarts Legacy is coming to Nintendo Switch on November 14th and Harry Potter fans without a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S can finally get their hands on the game.

The burning question, however, is whether the Switch’s aging hardware can keep up and deliver acceptable performance given the expansive and detailed nature of the game. With players describing the recent release of Mortal Kombat 1 on Switch as “nearly unplayable,” fans are right to have at least some concerns.

And now we have one, thanks to a fan who somehow got his hands on an early copy of Hogwarts Legacy on Nintendo’s console first sight how the game runs on the Switch.

The player shared footage of Switch gameplay, and although many of the clips were removed almost immediately, fans were able to get their first look.

The 40-second gameplay clip shows the player performing spells and jumping around the legendary castle. Despite the Switch’s limited hardware capabilities, the game’s performance appears to be stable, with no noticeable frame drops in the shared footage.

At this point, we can only see how the game runs in the introductory portion, as the player cannot continue until they complete a download, which will not be available until the official release date.

Still, the early shots of the introductory area have impressed fans many have commented about the “very impressive technical achievement” and said that it “looks better than expected.”

Others put the game on par with successful console launches. say it reminds them of that “Witcher 3 or Doom 2016 in the “What black magic did they use to make this work?” category of Switch games.”

However, as one Hogwarts Legacy fan pointed out, the gameplay shown comes from sections of the game that were typically less demanding on other consoles.

“Just to be clear as a Steam Deck player, I thought, “This isn’t so bad,” in the intro part, and then said, “…oh,” after I got to the castle.” They shared.

For avid Harry Potter fans waiting for Hogwarts Legacy to release on Switch, it may still be best to wait until November 14th to get a better look at the game’s performance.
