Modern Warfare 3 has the worst Twitch viewership for a CoD release in years

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is off to a disappointing launch on Twitch, with the weakest viewership for a Call of Duty game since 2019.

On November 10th, Activision officially launched Modern Warfare 3 – and while the campaign was widely criticized, the multiplayer is receiving a much more positive response, especially compared to MW2.

However, despite the improved gameplay over its predecessor, MW3 recorded one of the worst CoD releases of all time in terms of Twitch viewership.

MW3 has had a lackluster debut on Twitch so far, lagging behind GTA 5, Fortnite and League of Legends in total viewership, with 15 million hours watched since its release and the worst first day viewership for CoD since 2019.

MW3 sees the lowest Twitch viewership of the CoD release since 2019

According to a report by StreamsChartsModern Warfare 3 was watched for 3.3 million hours on its first day Scump’s Stream recording a large portion of it with 820,000 hours.

However, the latest installment doesn’t perform as well compared to the remakes of Modern Warfare, MW2, Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard in its release weeks.

For comparison, Black Ops Cold War was watched for 6.5 million hours upon release – almost twice as many as MW3. Modern Warfare 2, on the other hand, was watched for 5.3 million hours on the day of its release.

MW3 had the weakest CoD launch on Twitch since 2019.

Fortunately, it seems like viewership is starting to stabilize. By day four, MW3 has achieved more watch time than Vanguard and Modern Warfare did in their entire lives.

We’ll have to wait and see how the latest CoD performs in November and in the coming months as more content is added to the game, but for now it’s definitely on the lower end of success when it comes to Twitch.
