Newcastle are planning a £35million transfer for the former Man City star, who has struggled following his departure from the Premier League

NEWCASTLE UNITED are reportedly eyeing a move for former Manchester City star Ferran Torres.

The 23-year-old striker was signed by Pep Guardiola’s Cityzens from Valencia in 2020.

During his two years at Etihad he scored nine goals in the Premier League and won both the title and the Carabao Cup.

Torres’ performances in England also saw him break into the Spanish team, where he found the net 17 times in 38 international appearances for his country.

However, the lure of a return to his home country to Barcelona proved too great as he completed a £55m transfer from City in January 2022.

He scored seven goals in his first 26 appearances, but fell out of favor when Robert Lewandowski arrived just a few months after his move.

Now Barcelona are looking to offload a number of players to balance the books and Torres is reportedly one of those they are looking to cash in on.

And Fichajes claims Newcastle are “interested” in giving the attacker the opportunity to return to the Premier League.

They state that an offer of around £35 million would be enough to secure the star’s services.

The publication reports that Barca bosses believe Torres’ performances have “fell well short of expectations” and that he “could be one of the first sales” they make to fund a raft of new signings themselves .

Newcastle will be hoping to secure Champions League football for a second year in a row this season, especially with the top five from the Prem expected to qualify.

Eddie Howe’s side currently sit in seventh place, five points behind fifth-placed Aston Villa, while their hopes of reaching the knockout stages in Europe remain uncertain.

They are bottom of Group F after last week’s defeat at Dortmund and face a difficult game at Paris Saint-Germain next before hosting AC Milan in their final group game.
