Starfield players blame Game Awards rejection for “wasted potential.”

The Game Awards have just announced their list of nominees and Starfield is almost entirely absent. Although even fans of the game don’t seem shocked.
“Starfield” is a bit of a paradox, fitting for a title about space exploration. The game was Bethesda’s biggest release ever, but is hampered by “boring” quests and progression bugs.
After the game’s release, fans of the title felt somewhat forgotten due to a lack of updates and communication from Bethesda. Unlike the developer’s previous titles, Starfield feels like it has less staying power, which may explain its underwhelming showing at the Game Awards.

Aside from its nomination in a single category for Best RPG of 2023, Starfield has almost no presence at the show. fans of the game Subreddit I don’t seem particularly surprised by this either.
In a post discussing the lack of a GOTY nomination, players were pretty happy with Starfield’s relative absence. “I really like and love Starfield,” said one fan of the game. “But I’m not particularly surprised.”
“I mean the game has so much wasted potential that it makes sense not to be nominated,” another user replied. This seemed to be the most common opinion, even among those who enjoyed the game.

“What the game needed most was concentration. It’s great to have a wide range of activities to choose from, but they seem like substantive nonsense if they’re not fully implemented,” explained one player. “It doesn’t matter if we can go to all these systems and planets if there is very little to do there,” agreed another.
Not only were players missing Starfield’s side content, but the core narrative also left a lot to be desired, according to fans. “The central story is just disappointing. “It felt like another faction questline,” one user admitted.

Even Starfield’s avid fans seem to understand the Game Awards snub.
Starfield’s inclusion in the Game Awards’ Best RPG category also doesn’t bode well for its chances of winning. One player pointed out that it’s going up against GOTY favorite Baldur’s Gate 3 and apparently has “no chance.”
2023 was an unusually busy year for gaming, with a slew of surprise hits that took enthusiasts and the industry by surprise. Perhaps Starfield would have made more of an impact in another year.
