The Jimmy Awards 2024 return to Broadway in New York for the 15th year

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) – The Broadway League Foundation has announced plans for the 15th annual Jimmy Awards in New York City.

The event will take place on Monday, June 24, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. at the Minskoff Theater on Broadway in Manhattan.

The ceremony recognizes the best high school musical theater talent and features nominees from over 50 regions across the United States. To date, more than 900 alumni have participated in the program. Tickets will go on sale to the public in the spring.

The Jimmy Awards is a national talent showcase that celebrates student excellence and recognizes the importance of theater education in schools.

The evening features dynamic ensemble and solo performances and ends with the presentation of the Best Performance by an Actor and Best Performance by an Actress awards to two talented students.

“We are proud to announce the 15th Annual Jimmy Awards, taking place at the Minskoff Theater on Broadway on June 24, 2024, and look forward to welcoming 102 nominees as they arrive in NYC for an unforgettable experience. “They will all come together to train, rehearse and take Broadway by storm,” said Charlotte St. Martin, president of the Broadway League. “Looking back over the last 15 years, the impact the Jimmy Awards have had on Broadway is undeniable. We’ve seen 63 Jimmys alumni go on to perform on Broadway and touring Broadway shows, some of whom made the jump to Hollywood. The sky is the limit for these incredibly talented and ambitious nominees.”

The Jimmy Awards/The National High School Musical Theater Awards (NHSMTA) program impacts 100,000 students participating in nearly 50 regional high musical theater competitions sponsored by presenters of Broadway productions throughout the United States . The program, named after Broadway impresario James M. Nederlander, was the catalyst for over $6,000,000 in educational scholarships.

Founded in 2009 by Nederlander Alliances LLC, Pittsburgh CLO and Broadway Education Alliance (BEA), NHSMTA’s mission is to raise the profile of musical theater in schools, recognize dedicated teachers and inspire the next generation of artists and enthusiasts. Numerous student participants have been cast in Broadway, touring and West End productions.

Presented by the Broadway League Foundation Inc., the NHSMTA invites one Best Actress nominee and one Best Actress nominee from each regional ceremony to New York City for a week-long theater intensive program that includes coaching, training and rehearsals led by some of the best Broadway Stars includes accomplished professionals. After all their collective efforts throughout the week, all nominees will perform in an extraordinary talent showcase performed live in front of an audience on a Broadway stage.

Part of the Foundation’s mission is to enhance and expand the public’s knowledge, appreciation and awareness of the theatrical arts. Since its founding in 1993, it has supported several projects to preserve Broadway’s legacy and introduce new audiences to Broadway theater.
