A 36-year-old man in Florida has been arrested for allegedly killing his mother and her boyfriend in a “very gruesome” manner in their recreational vehicle (RV) last week. Thomas J. Matejcek was taken into custody Friday and charged with two counts of second-degree murder – non-intentional in the double murder of Patricia Matejcek, 62, and her boyfriend, Sean Harrison Sr., 55. records reviewed by Law&Crime Show.
According to a news release from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 12:06 p.m. on Friday, October 10, officers responded to a 911 call about a woman in distress at the Arbor Terrace RV Park in the 200 block of 55th Avenue Terrace West. The caller was a neighbor who told emergency dispatchers that she heard a woman screaming for help on the neighboring property.
When first responders arrived at the scene a few minutes later, they said they entered the RV and saw two adults – later identified as Sean Harrison and Patricia Matejcek – lying on the floor of the RV. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The first officer to arrive on the scene also reported that as he drove to the RV, he saw an adult male fleeing the scene on foot.
After a brief search by officers accompanied by the sheriff’s K-9 unit, authorities said they were able to locate the escaped man – later identified as Matejcek – in a shopping center parking lot on 14th Street West. He was arrested a few minutes after police arrived at the scene.
“I commend the numerous officers who converged on this area and quickly arrested Matejcek for this senseless crime,” Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells said in a statement.
Authorities remained tight-lipped about the circumstances of the alleged double murder and did not speculate about a possible motive for the murders. But a sheriff’s office spokesman said the scene in Pamela Matejcek and Sean Harrison’s mobile home was particularly disturbing.
“It was certainly a horrific scene here,” said MCSO Public Information Officer Randy Warren said in a statement to Tampa Fox affiliate WTVT. “Two people were killed. It was a very cruel scene.”
In one GoFundMe page Patricia Matejcek’s sister, Krista Kale, was set up to finance the victim’s burial. She said Thomas Matejcek terrorized his mother for years and she reported him to law enforcement several times.
“She has endured years of physical, mental and emotional abuse at the hands of this monster without the courts helping to stop this man,” the post said. “Numerous attempts have been made to plead for her safety, only to be met with incompetence, ignorance and injustice. Our beautiful sister was scared and begging for her life just to apologize.”
Earlier this year, Thomas Matejcek was charged with first-degree burglary of a dwelling causing bodily harm or bodily harm and tampering with a witness (preventing communication). According to an affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, on May 18, 2023, Thomas Matejcek forced his way into the trailer where his mother and Harrison lived and immediately began punching and kicking Harrison. After choking Harrison for several seconds, he allegedly threw his mother to the ground, injuring her in the hip. Thomas Matejcek then stole the victims’ cellphones and said he did so to prevent them from calling the police, the affidavit states.
Thomas Matejcek is currently being held without bond.
