Timothee Chalamet’s ‘disgusting’ SNL skit is criticized as a Hamas joke

Timothee Chalamet is facing backlash after hosting the latest episode of Saturday Night Live. Viewers described his Hamas joke as “disgusting.”

The Wonka star appeared as host of SNL on Nov. 11, where he sang a song to “Pure Imagination,” taking a swipe at the actors who were now indulging in “shameless self-promotion” after the SAG-AFTRA hit .

In addition to promoting his upcoming film as the titular chocolate maker, Chalamet also used his tune to joke about Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Dune: Part Two” – and there’s even an AI plot to boot.

But while many viewers enjoyed Chalamet’s skits, one caused outrage online.

In Please Do Not Destroy, Chalamet pretended to be a man who wanted to commit suicide by jumping off a building. The comedy group urges him to change his mind and asks if there is anything he cares about.

“I guess. It’s my music,” replies Chalamet. When he plays a few of his songs, it’s not that great – but they agree to share his music to make him live. As she checks his Instagram username, Chalamet’s character replies: “It’s Hamas, Hamas.”

“Yeah, dude, I don’t share Hamas songs on Instagram,” says Martin Herlihy. The joke wasn’t well received by some, who are upset that SNL’s ongoing Israel-Hamas war was used as a joke.

Let’s take X/Twitter wrote: “Joking about an ongoing genocide? When people actually die every single second of the day? So fucking disgusting, these people are sick, damn Timothée Chalamet, damn Snl.”

“Absolutely disgusting! Chalamet really showed us his true colors this year and they’re not as pretty as he looks.” said another.

One third added: “This is such a low blow. This is no joke, folks. The current mass genocide of our Palestinian brothers and sisters is nothing to scoff at and laugh about. Disgusting piece of shit of yours.”

“Fuck Timothee Chalamet and everyone at SNL for trying to make light of a very serious and dark situation.” commented a quarter. “I can’t believe this was even written and no one tried to stop it. Disgusting.”

SNL and Chalamet have yet to officially respond to the backlash.
