Here we take a look at her career, husband and children.
Who is Laura Trott?
Laura Trott MBE was born on December 7, 1984 in Oxted, Surrey, England.
A rising star in the Conservative Party, she was a former special adviser to David Cameron from 2009, but left No. 10 following his defeat in the 2016 EU referendum.
She became a director at the political consulting and PR agency Portland for two years while pursuing her goal of entering the House of Commons.
When former Defense Secretary Sir Michael Fallon announced he would not seek re-election at the 2019 general election, Laura was selected as the Conservative candidate in Sevenoaks.
Ms Trott entered Parliament as MP for Sevenoaks – a historically safe Conservative seat held by Sir Fallon from 1997 – and won with a majority of 20,000 votes.
She joined the House of Commons Health and Social Care Committee as it scrutinized the government’s response during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ms Trott became a parliamentary private secretary at the Department for Transport but quit when Boris Johnson’s government collapsed and became an early supporter of Rishi Sunak’s bid to replace him as prime minister.
Following Liz Truss’ record-breakingly short tenure as Prime Minister, Mr Sunak appointed Laura as Parliamentary Secretary at the Department for Work and Pensions between October 27, 2022 and November 13, 2023.
She was subsequently appointed as Principal Secretary to the Ministry of Finance by the Prime Minister on November 13, 2023, as part of a major cabinet reshuffle.
