LAURA Trott became chief secretary to the Treasury in Rishi Sunak’s cabinet reshuffle in November 2023.
Here we take a look at her career, husband and children.
Who is Laura Trott?
Laura Trott MBE was born on December 7, 1984 in Oxted, Surrey, England.
A rising star in the Conservative Party, she was a former special adviser to David Cameron from 2009, but left No. 10 following his defeat in the 2016 EU referendum.
She became a director at the political consulting and PR agency Portland for two years while pursuing her goal of entering the House of Commons.
When former Defense Secretary Sir Michael Fallon announced he would not seek re-election at the 2019 general election, Laura was selected as the Conservative candidate in Sevenoaks.
Ms Trott entered Parliament as MP for Sevenoaks – a historically safe Conservative seat held by Sir Fallon from 1997 – and won with a majority of 20,000 votes.
She joined the House of Commons Health and Social Care Committee as it scrutinized the government’s response during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ms Trott became a parliamentary private secretary at the Department for Transport but quit when Boris Johnson’s government collapsed and became an early supporter of Rishi Sunak’s bid to replace him as prime minister.
Following Liz Truss’ record-breakingly short tenure as Prime Minister, Mr Sunak appointed Laura as Parliamentary Secretary at the Department for Work and Pensions between October 27, 2022 and November 13, 2023.
She was subsequently appointed as Principal Secretary to the Ministry of Finance by the Prime Minister on November 13, 2023, as part of a major cabinet reshuffle.

Bahador Mahvelati, who goes by the nickname Bids, was born in August 1978.
He studied economics and econometrics at the University of Nottingham before completing a master’s degree in decision science at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
After graduating, he worked at UBS Investment Bank, then became a supply chain and procurement consultant at State of Flux, moving to Booz & Company as an associate before returning to UBS as a director.
Bids has worked at PricewaterhousCoopers since 2014, where he held the positions of senior manager, director and partner for strategy and operations – the role he continues to hold today.
