Cooperman is the founder of New York City-based Omega Advisors and has secured 1 million shares in United for $17 million (£13.5 million).

News of his large stake comes just days before British billionaire businessman Sir Jim Ratcliffe plans to secure his 25 percent takeover of the club.

Cooperman’s reported stake will be significantly smaller than that of Ratcliffe, who is expected to pay £1.4bn for his quarter control of the Manchester giants.

Leon Cooperman is an American businessman and former hedge fund manager.

He was born on April 25, 1943, making him 80 years old.

Cooperman worked at Goldman Sachs in the investment research department for 22 years.

There he served as responsible partner, co-chairman of the Investment Policy Committee and chairman of the Stock Selection Committee.

In 1989, he was named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Goldman Sachs Asset Management.

Cooperman retired from Goldman Sachs two years later and formed a private investment partnership, Omega Advisors, Inc.

Leon Cooperman reportedly has a net worth of $2.8 billion (£2.24 million).

He is currently Chairman and CEO of Omega Advisors, a New York-based investment advisory firm with over $3.3 billion in assets under management.

Forbes magazine considers Cooperman a “Wall Street Legend” and ranked him No. 24 in its 2018 list of top-earning hedge fund managers.

Who is Leon Cooperman’s wife Toby?

Leon Cooperman is married to Toby Cooperman, a retired special education teacher with a lifelong interest in helping people with learning disabilities.

The couple met in French class and married the same year they finished classes.

For more than 20 years, Toby has worked at the Early Childhood Learning Center, a special education school in Chatham, New Jersey.
